Filmmaker Dassin Dies Aged 96

Veteran US film director Jules Dassin, who sought exile in Europe after being named during the anti-communist witch-hunts of the 1950s, died Monday in Athens at the age of 96.

His biggest hit was the 1960 film "Never on Sunday".

Jules Dassin, the American who directed the film "Never on Sunday" and was married to the late Greek actress and culture minister Melina Mercouri, died in an Athens hospital after a short illness on Monday aged 96.
