French filmmaker Jean Delannoy has died at the age of 100.

His 1946 film "La symphonie pastorale" earned him the first Grand Prix of the Cannes Film Festival.

Aimé Césaire, bard of the 'Négritude' movement, died on Thursday after suffering heart problems.

He had been admitted to the hospital in Fort-de-France on April 9.
